                                              Harvest Time

                                      By: Jearlene (Jeri) Gibby

Go to the ant thou sluggard, consider her ways and be wise, having no guide, overseer or ruler, provides her meat in summer, and gathers her food in the harvest (Proverbs 6:6-8). Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands (6:10) so shall your poverty come (6:11). The Holy Spirit expects us to be diligent in the affairs of life and the dangers of spiritual lethargy.

As a child I remember my dad and mom planting gardens, sowing seeds to die in the earth and bring forth new sprouts in spring and summer, and God blessed the work of his hands (Job 1:10). Just as the seeds die, we must die to the world and begin a new life in Christ. We become aware of the harvest, days are short and evening fades away like the morning dew; and the world is the field (Matthew 13:38), white ready to harvest, (John 4:13). We must be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Always vigilant as Satan is a master of disguise, to deceive and destroy, who can transform himself as an angel of light (II Corinthians 11:14). Pretending to be what he is not to lead you away from truth. As in days of old, sin is still sin and the penalty of unforgiveness is only a breath away. The harvesting of souls into the Kingdom of God is our mission, to tell of a man who loved us so much that He gave His life's blood that we might have eternal life. Now what kind of man would do this for us? Jesus is His name and He is the King of Glory.
